BluCo Energy is an alternate supplier serving customers in New York state. The company has top customer service reviews, but some feel sales may be pushy.

Our Take

Customers are pleased with savings on fixed rate plans with BluCo Energy. Additionally, the company earns top marks from the Better Business Bureau for handling customer concerns appropriately.

However, some feel that telemarketing sales practices may be unfavorable, and the company's lack of long term experience is noted by the Better Business Bureau.

Top Customer Service

BluCo Energy has top ratings from the Better Business Bureau, which gave the company an A rating as of March 2015 for handling customer concerns well, and receiving a small number of complaints for a business of its size.

Savings on Fixed Rates

Customers are happy to report savings on fixed rate plans with BluCo Energy in comparison to their local utility.

We recommend fixed rate contracts of 12 months or fewer for natural gas customers, because the price you pay per therm or cubic foot changes a lot between seasons, and customers can save by locking in a competitive price during a cheap season like winter. However, because the price of natural gas is falling over time, we do not recommend fixed rate plans that last longer than a year.

Electricity customers should opt for 18 months or longer because the price of electricity per kilowatt-hour is rising over time, but fluctuates so much over the course of a year that fixed rate customers may miss out on savings when the market rate falls. For longer periods, a fixed rate electricity plan can save you money.

We do not recommend variable rate plans, because alternate suppliers like BluCo Energy are not regulated by your state government and rates can therefore become more expensive than your local utility.

Pushy Telemarketing Sales

Some customers allege that they have received calls from BluCo Energy where representatives did not correctly identify themselves, and tried to get them to sign up for service using less than clear methods.

There are also assertions that telemarketing representatives have been pushy.

Short Time in Business

According to the Better Business Bureau, though the company has an A rating, it receives a slight reduction in score for being a newer company. Companies with more experience in the field may deliver better customer service experiences, and may have smoothed out operation in ways that newer companies are still working out.

The company has over 90 years of experience in other realms, but the Better Business Bureau counts BluCo Energy's time as an energy supply company only.
