Rate Plans Available

Fixed Rates

The rate you pay for natural gas per therm or electricity per kilowatt-hour will remain the same for your entire contract period on fixed rate plans.

Contract lengths include:

  • 12 months
  • 36 months
  • 60 months (5 years)

You must give 45 days advance notice to cancel your fixed rate plan, and early cancellation fees range from $50-150. Plans may include monthly fees, such as fees when monthly usage is below a certain level.

Variable Rates

With RateFlex Pro plans, consumers receive an introductory rate for the first 1-3 months before you have a normal variable rate plan. Once you are on a variable rate plan, your rate will not increase more than 35% from the month before. Customers have the option to switch to a fixed rate plan at any time if rates start to go up.

There will be an early cancellation fee of $50-150 if switch to a fixed rate and cancel before the end of your contract.

Which Plan Should I Pick?

We recommend fixed rate plans with Just Energy. For electricity, we recommend the 36 or 60 month contracts. For natural gas customers we recommend 12 month contracts.

Variable rates are subject to skyrocket since they are not regulated by your local government.

Customer Reviews

Consumers are often satisfied with savings on fixed rate plans, although it is important to be informed about early cancellation fees.

Variable rates are generally not a good idea, and customers report paying higher rates than with their local utility. Additionally, Just Energy has been criticized for its door to door sales methods, which can be misleading. Other consumers feel that plan conditions, like cancellation fees, are not sufficiently disclosed.

Just Energy has an F rating from the Better Business Bureau for failing to address customer complaints. In addition, the Ontario Energy Board in Canada filed actionagainst Just Energy in 2012 for failing to comply with consumer protection laws. Reasons include misleading customers in door to door sales and providing false statements, among other concerns.

Green Options

Just Energy delivers JustGreen energy solutions for both natural gas and electricity customers.

In order to offset your electricity usage, Just Energy purchases Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) worth up to 100% of your electricity consumption. For green natural gas customers, Carbon Offsets are purchased on your behalf, for up to 100% of your natural gas consumption. RECs and Carbon Offsets support the generation of green energy elsewhere.

Though not linked to your consumption, you also have the option to purchase Carbon Offsets as needed on JustClean plans.
