Savings on Fixed Rate Plans

Fixed rate plans with Starion Energy can deliver good savings according to some customers, in comparison to rates offered by their local utility.

We recommend fixed rate contracts of 18 months or longer for electricity customers, and 12 months or fewer for natural gas customers. This is because the rate of electricity per kilowatt-hour tends to fluctuate so much over a course of a year, that customers may not be able to save when the market price drops over a one year period. However, the price of electricity increases over time, helping customers to save on 18 month and longer contracts.

Natural gas customers however should opt for shorter contracts, since the price of natural gas per therm is volatile over a one year period, but actually falls over time. By signing up for service during the winter, when the price of natural gas is actually the lowest, customers can save

Green Energy Options

Many customers are pleased with the availability of green electricity plans with Starion Energy. For customers on fixed rate green electricity plans, Starion Energy compensates for 100% of your energy consumption by purchasing Renewable Energy Credits (RECs). RECs support the development of green energy projects elsewhere in the United States, gradually shifting national dependence toward cleaner energy alternatives.

Green energy customers may find contract lengths for 6 or 12 month periods to be a good deal based on the added benefit of renewable electricity.

Moderate Customer Service Ratings

Starion Energy has a C rating for customer service from the Better Business Bureau, as of March 2015. The company's rating was boosted by a strong response to and resolution of consumer complaints. Additionally, Starion Energy has been operating for a relatively long amount of time, giving consumers confidence in service quality.

However, the Better Business Bureau reports that Starion Energy has not done a sufficient job in fixing the causes of common complaints. Additionally, the company has received a relatively high volume of official complaints for a business of its size.

Misleading or Pushy Sales

Customers allege that Starion Energy representatives have signed them up for service without their knowledge, or by misleading them that they worked for another company, such as their local utility. Additionally, some customers assert that they received telemarketing calls from Starion Energy, despite being signed up on the national Do Not Call registry.

Unstable Variable Rates

Some customers state that they signed up on variable rate plans under the promise of savings from Starion Energy, but that these discounts never materialized. Instead, some allege that variable rates can become more expensive than their local utility.

Additionally, other customers are not pleased with the fact that fixed rate contracts with Starion Energy automatically become variable at the end of their terms.
