Signing up for NYSEG service in Goshen

If you are moving in to a new home in Goshen, you will need to call NYSEG's customer service line or visit your local Goshen office 5 days in advance before your move. This is to make sure your natural gas and/or electricity service starts in time. You will need to supply the following information to open your account:

  • Full name
  • Planned move in date
  • Social security or passport number
  • New Address
  • Email Address
  • Telephone Number

You can set up your account in person at NYSEG's Goshen office, or you can reach NYSEG's main customer service line at 1-800-642-4272, from Monday - Friday (7:00 AM - 5:00 PM).

Switching to an Alternate ESCO Supplier

NYSEG is the automatic provider of natural gas and/or electricity supply and delivery for your area.

  • Delivery is all services related to getting energy to your home
  • Supply covers the cost of energy you consume, and customer service

By switching to an alternate Energy Supply Company (ESCO), you can save on energy supply charges.

Before choosing an ESCO, you will need to set up your NYSEG account first. This is because the ESCO will need your NYSEG account information to take over your energy supply. There are usually no fees involved to set up service, but you should be educated about other common contract terms.

While ESCOs usually offer both fixed and variable rates, fixed rates are your better option. Learn more about how ESCOs work.

Terminating Service

If you are moving out of NYSEG territory, be sure to call NYSEG customer service 1-2 business days before moving to ensure that you are not billed for extra days. For natural gas customers, a technican will need to come to your home to get a final meter reading. If your move-out date changes, be sure to update NYSEG so that you do not have to go without service.

In order to avoid cancellation fees on your ESCO account, you will need to notify your supplier in advance of your move. Usually 30 days notice is required. Be sure to have a look at your supplier contract to ensure that you are prepared.

Bill Charges with NYSEG

Your NYSEG bill contains charges divided up by supply, delivery, and taxes. Most residential customers are charged in the SC1 rate class.

Because the New York Public Service Commission (NYPSC) regulates NYSEG rates, there are no changes to NYSEG's rate structure unless NYPSC assesses that there have been actual changes in the cost of doing business at NYSEG.

The below graph shows typical NYSEG charges, divided by delivery, supply, and taxes.
