How to End your RG&E Service

If your new home is outside of Rochester Gas & Electric (RG&E) territory, you will need to terminate your electricity and gas service before moving out. Be sure to call RG&E at least 5 business days before moving out to ensure you do not pay for extra days. Since turning off your service still depends on electrician availability, it is best to call as soon as you know your moving date.

You can reach RG&E Customer Service at 1-800-743-2110 from 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM (Mon - Fri).

You will need the following information for your call:

  • RG&E Account Number
  • Expected Move out date

If your move out date changes, be sure to call RG&E with enough time in advance to not miss out on service or pay extra.

You will need to call your new utility to switch on electricity and gas service in your new home. If you are moving within the state of New York, find out your utility's new electricity account and new gas account process.

Transferring Service

If you are moving to a new home within RG&E territory, you can set up new electricity and gas service and turn it off at your current place during the same phone call. RG&E will need one and a half weeks advance notice to turn on your new service.

Your RG&E customer service agent will need the following information to make the switch:

  • RG&E Account Number
  • Move out date
  • New Address
  • New Home move-in date
  • Any Updated Contact information

Canceling your ESCO service

You do not need to take any extra steps to cancel your ESCO service, but you may have an early termination fee. Be sure to look at the conditions of your ESCO plan to see whether you will be charged for cancellation.
