Our Take

BlueRock Energy has fixed rate options to meet the needs of natural gas customers, and the company could also be a good fit for some green electricity customers. Consumers have reported that they are pleased with how much they have been able to save on fixed rate plans with BlueRock. Additionally, the company has stellar reviews from the Better Business Bureau for handling customer complaints well.

However, some customers may feel that variable rates may not be a good deal in comparison to their local utility, and rates may be subject to rise above expectations. Additionally, some may feel that plan conditions have not been fully explained.

Recommended Fixed Rates

Fixed rate contracts are your best bet for service with BlueRock Energy. Customers can save by locking in a competitive rate for the right period of time. Normally, we recommend contracts of 18 months or longer for electricity customers, because the cost of electricity per kilowatt-hour increases over time. However, it changes so much over the course of a year that fixed rate customers may lose out on savings when the market price falls for shorter contract lengths.

Green energy customers may find that the risk of not saving in comparison to their local utility may be worth it on fixed rate electricity plans, because of the added benefit of helping the environment.

Contracts of 12 months or fewer are perfect for natural gas customers because the price of natural gas per therm/cubic foot falls over time, but changes so much between seasons that customers can save if they lock in a competitive price during winter, when prices for natural gas are actually the cheapest.

We do not variable rates, since rates with alternate suppliers like BlueRock Energy are not regulated by local government and can become more expensive than rates with your local utility.

Savings on Fixed Rate Plans

There is satisfaction among customers with the amount they have been able to save on fixed rate plans in comparison to their local utility.

Customers are also pleased that they are able to devote a portion of their electricity usage to green energy.

Top Customer Service Ratings

BlueRock Energy has an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau as of March 2015 for handling customer complaints quickly and effectively, and receiving a relatively small number of complaints for a business of its size.

Customers also state that they have had positive experiences with customer service representatives at BlueRock Energy.

Plan Conditions May be Confusing

Some customers report that some aspects of their plans have not been straightforward.

For instance, guaranteed savings programs promise customers a certain percentage of savings each month in comparison to their local utility. These plans require a year-long commitment for customers to save, and some feel that this requirement was not clearly stated when they signed up for service.

Unstable Variable Rates

Variable rates may not be a reliable option, and some customers have expressed disappointment that they can become more expensive than what their local utility offers. Additionally, it may take up to 30 days to cancel service, which some customers do not appreciate.
