Natural Gas Emergencies

If you experience or witness a natural gas emergency, leave your home immediately and get to a safe place before calling one of the following numbers, which are available 24/7:

Power Outages

In the case of a power outage in the National Grid service area, call 1-800-867-5222, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can also report outages online.

Customers in Metro New York should call Con Edison at 1-800-752-6633 to report an outage, and customers in Long Island/Rockaways should call PSEG Long Island at 1-800-490-0075 for outages

Natural Gas Service Additional Contacts

Long Island & the Rockaways

If you are looking for more information about installing new natural gas service (or to request new gas service), you can call 1-877-696-4743 between the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. from Monday to Friday, or on Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

If you would like to request your service be turned on or turned off, call 1-800-930-5003, at least 24 hours before the date/time you would like the service start/stop to happen.

If you are in the process of having a new gas pipe installed outside your home, call 631-348-6150 for any questions or concerns.

Call 516-545-5682 for information about or to request an upgrade to your meter.

Metro New York

Call 1-877-696-4743 to request new natural gas service installation, or for more information. Office hours are 7:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. from Monday to Friday, and Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. If you are in the process of having a new gas pipe installed outside your home, call 631-348-6150 for questions or concerns. Call 718-270-0220 if you would like to relocate gas service or a gas meter.

Bill Payment

To pay your electricity or gas bills over the phone using a credit/debit card, call the SpeedPay service at Western Union. Note that there is a fee to use this service. The phone number for SpeedyPay is 1-888-849-4310.

You can also pay your bill over the phone (payment from your checking/savings account) by calling National Grid's customer service line:

Payment Assistance

Get in touch with National Grid you are having difficulty paying your bill and think that you may not be able to make a payment. You may be able to find a payment plan or payment arrangement that works for you.

To get in touch with National Grid Payment Arrangements, call 1-800-443-1837, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. (Monday to Friday), or between 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on Saturdays.

Call National Grid's Credit and Collections Department if you have received a final warning notice of an upcoming disconnection or termination. The number to reach Credit & Collections is the same as for Payment Arrangements: 1-800-443-1837. The department is open Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 pm, and Saturdays from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 pm.

You can call Western Union SpeedPay at 1-888-849-4310 to quickly make a payment by credit card. Note that SpeedyPay charges a fee for this service

Claims Contact Information

Call National Grid's Claims department for questions or concerns about damaged property after National Grid work. The office is open from Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (closed weekends and holidays).

Digging & Tree Trimming

Dig Safe

If you are doing some work around your home or business that involves excavation or digging, it is a good idea to notify Dig Safe and to ensure that it is safe to do so and that there are no underground infrastructures underneath your poperty.

Call Dig Safe at 1-800-962-7962 to find out more. There are customer service representatives available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.

Note that Dig Safe for digging questions is not a National Grid number.

Tree Trimming

As the electricity delivery utility company for upstate New York, National Grid is responsible for operating and maintaining the wires that bring electricity to your home. Sometimes they will need to trim trees that are near poles and wires. To report a tree that needs trimming, or for more information, upstate New York customers can call 1-800-642-4272. New York City customers will need to contact Con Edison, and Long Island/Rockaways customers should call PSEG Long Island.
