  • Early termination fee of $500, or 2¢ per kWh/20¢ per therm multiplied by the estimated remaining usage in contract (whichever is greater)
    • For customers who signed up through door to door sales, cancellation fees are $100 if less than 12 months remain on the contract, or $200 for 12 months or more
  • True-up pricing: if usage exceeds 10% of customer's use for the same month of previous year, all usage over the limit is charged on variable rates

Customer Reviews

Some customers report that their energy bills were about the same or cheaper than with their traditional supplier, and that their customer service experiences were excellent.

However, other customers report feeling tricked or uncomfortable based on door to door sales methods. Additionally, some customers state that variable rates were too variable - and could end up spiking far above the price offered by their traditional supplier.

Our conclusion: Major Energy can be a good choice if you choose a fixed rate plan that has competitive rates. However, you must be absolutely sure you will not want to cancel, as cancellation fees are very high. Read more reviews and our in-depth take at our Major Energy customer reviews page.

Rewards

Major Energy offers $25 cash rewards for every friend you refer for service. For every friend who signs up, both of you receive $25 per energy service. Customers earn $50 if friends sign up for both electricity and natural gas.

Also, as a major partner of the New York Knicks basketball team, Major Energy offers Knicks-related prizes.

Smart Meters

For Pennsylvania residents living in Pennsylvania Power & Light (PPL) service territory, Major Energy offers a smart meter program with Respond Power. A smart meter tracks a household's usage, and includes factors like family size, weather patterns, and grid demand. It delivers personalized recommendations like when electricity costs more during the day, and when families should cut down on use.

By cutting back during times of high demand, customers can also earn rewards and rebates. Customers can log into their Respond Power account and see details about their daily usage and rewards. Respond Power will soon be expanding for Major Energy customers in New York and more of Pennsylvania.
