Houston-based, Infuse Energy LLC is a retail electric provider that was "founded by electricity customers for electricity customers" and offers residential & commercial electricity plans to consumers across Texas. Infuse Energy opened its doors to Texans in 2014, 12 years after Texas deregulated the market in 2002. Infuse Energy competes against 75+ retail electric providers using their healthy selection of Infuse Energy plans, competitive rates, pricing transparency, and customer satisfaction. Infuse Energy plans come with fixed and variable rates, and in "green" renewable versions. Where does Infuse Energy serve? Dallas, Houston, Odessa, Tyler, and many more

Texans can sign-up with a Infuse Energy plan who reside within the deregulated retail electric service areas of the investor-owned utility companies, which include:
 Oncor Electric Delivery
 CenterPoint Energy
 AEP Texas North & Central
 Texas-New Mexico Power (TNMP)

Infuse Energy does a great job at ensuring the Infuse Energy plan offering is consistent throughout the entire state. For instance, Infuse Energy in Dallas and Houston will have very similar plans as Infuse Energy in San Angelo, Abilene, Tyler, Midland and Odessa.

Currently, Infuse Energy doesn't offer plans that "bundle" their supply fees with the utility company's delivery fees. This means that Infuse Energy's plans will have the current utility company charges added on, which are:

Utility company tariffs in Texas : MARCH 30 2021
TDU TDU monthly base fee TDU ¢/kWh energy rate
AEP North $3.57/mo 3.0078¢/kWh
Oncor Electric Delivery $3.42/mo 3.4928¢/kWh
CenterPoint $4.39/mo 3.2669¢/kWh
AEP Central $4.27/mo 3.7458¢/kWh
TNMP $7.85/mo 4.0403¢/kWh

Fixed rate Infuse Energy plans

Infuse Energy's fixed rate is a rate whose price (in ¢/kWh) does not change over the whole period of the contract. Unless consolidated into one completely "bundled" rate (not currently available from Infuse Energy), the utility company's rate is subject to change 2 to 3 times each year. So the "fixed" rate is fixed to a certain degree. Fixed rate plans can often be a good idea if you are able to lock in a good rate at the right time of year.

Once the fixed rate contract is finished, unless renewed or terminated, Infuse Energy will automatically change customers to a month-to-month plan. Generally (in fact, almost always), these month-to-month plans imply a variable energy rate that is regulated by the Public Utilities Commission of Texas and is relatively high.

Electricity customers looking for a fixed rate plan should choose a fixed rate contract of at least 12 months. Electricity prices per kilowatt-hour fluctuate throughout the year, and you may actually lose out on saving money by not being able to take advantage of prices when they are low. However, because electricity prices tend to increase over time, locking in fixed rates for longer periods may prove advantageous and help save cash.

Variable rate Infuse Energy plans

The Infuse Energy Infusion Flex plan
The Infuse Energy Green Infusion Flex renewable plan

A variable rate is a rate whose price (in ¢/kWh) may change each month. A variable can be at the discretion of the Infuse Energy, or they can set rules on the variability of their rate - for example, that the energy rate for customers varies alongside the wholesale price of energy.

Besides the two Infuse Energy plans offered (above), Infuse Energy customers are automatically enrolled in a default, month-to-month (variable rate) plan when the fixed rate plan expires if no action is taken to renew on to a different Infuse Energy plan or change to a different retail electric provider.

The great thing about variable rate plans offered from electric providers, in general, is the ability to leave the plan and/or provider at any time without having to pay an "Early Cancellation Fee". Since providers are aware of this advantage on variable rate plans, the energy price quoted in a variable rate plan is almost always higher than a commitment-involved, fixed rate plan that the same provider offers.

Green Infuse Energy plans : Renewable energy sourced

Infuse Energy's Green plans guarantee that Infuse Energy will purchase renewable energy credits for the amount of energy consumed by the customers signed up to the plan.

As noted above, Infuse Energy's rate difference between a non-renewable and renewable plan seems to be a consistent 0.3¢/kWh -which would come to a difference of $6 (based on a 2000kWh month). As renewable energy continues to grow in popularity and investment, some retail electric providers already offer plans with this aspect integrated (and without a notable additional charge).

At this time, electric providers cannot guarantee that the energy used by each customer is renewable or green. What electric providers can ensure, though, is that the appropriate amount of renewable energy credits (RECs) is retired to authenticate the renewable energy (in kWh or % of kWh) contained in the product or plan.

The plans offered by Infuse Energy that are not renewable / green plans source 19.3% renewable content, which is slightly lower than the Texas average of 20.7%. Though, it's worth highlighting that Infuse Energy has a much higher level of renewable sourced content in their non-green plans compared to many other retail electric providers with plans that are not renewable energy sourced.

Infuse Energy : Early cancellation fees If deciding to become an Infuse Energy customer, it's worth noting the flat, "Early Termination Fee" that is attached to all fixed rate electric plans.
3-month contract : $100
6-month contract : $150
9-month contract : $175
12-month contract : $200
18-month contract : $250
24-month contract : $300
36-month contract : $375

"Minimum usage fee" charges with Infuse Energy plans

The Infuse Energy True Blue Infusion plan
The Infuse Energy Infusion Flex plan
The Infuse Energy Green Infusion Flex renewable plan
The Infuse Energy Essential Infusion plan
The Infuse Energy PTC Lean Green Infusion renewable plan

There are several Infuse Energy plans that have a minimum usage fee. Generally, these plans are not designed to reward the energy conserving consumers or smaller households.

A "supply" fee, apart from an energy rate charge, is an optional charge that some providers choose to impose on customers in a way that hinders customer attempts to save money by using less energy. Retail electric providers, like TXU Energy and Reliant Energy use a minimum-usage-fee strategy in their plan pricing as well, but there are many other electric providers that only charge a single, flat energy rate regardless of energy consumed each month.

Base Charges with Infuse Energy plans

The Infuse Energy Weekend Free-For-All plan
The Infuse Energy Weekend Free-For-All Green renewable plan
The Infuse Energy Essential Infusion plan

The above Infuse Energy plans have a base charge fee applied to them, regardless of contract length. The base fee / base charge is an optional charge that providers choose to impose on customers. Again, other electric providers, like TXU Energy and Reliant Energy charge base fees on their plans too, but there are many electric providers that only charge the energy rate.
