CenterPoint Energy only manages Natural Gas customers directly and does not issue electricity bills to consumers residing within the CenterPoint electric service area.

CenterPoint Energy bill : Electricity

Houston residents have the power to choose which electric provider will be the intermediary with CenterPoint Energy. It is the chosen electric provider's bill that will contain the delivery charges that are charged for CenterPoint Energy along with the supply charges owed to the retail provider. For any questions concerning your electricity bill, you must directly contact your chosen retail energy provider.

CenterPoint Energy bill pay: Natural gas customers

CenterPoint Energy's non-Houston-residing, natural gas customers only have a couple of ways to make a bill payment (below), and encourage customers to register with CenterPoint Energy and manage their account online.

CenterPoint Energy : Rates & Tariffs for electricity

Electricity delivery charges are regulated by the Texas Public Utilities Commission, and change once or twice a year. Electricity prices depend on demand and available supply. For historical electricity rates, contact your retail electric provider (REP) directly.

A Transmission & Distribution Utility / Service Provider (TDU/TDSP), like CenterPoint Energy, is only determined by location of residence. Switching from one utility company to another is not possible unless one moves to a different location that is covered by a different TDU/TDSP service area.

The charges originating from a TDU / TDSP (that are passed through a REP and onto consumers) are more or less the same, but with an exception to Texas-New Mexico Power's exceptionally high monthly base fee and ¢/kWh energy rate:

Utility company tariffs in Texas : MARCH 30 2021
TDU TDU monthly base fee TDU ¢/kWh energy rate
AEP North $3.57/mo 3.0078¢/kWh
Oncor Electric Delivery $3.42/mo 3.4928¢/kWh
CenterPoint $4.39/mo 3.2669¢/kWh
AEP Central $4.27/mo 3.7458¢/kWh
TNMP $7.85/mo 4.0403¢/kWh

Below, is the contact for CenterPoint when you are experiencing a power outage or to see if your neighborhood may be affected. Customers may also search for a power outage by zip code or county and see how many customers are affected by an area outage along with an estimated restoration date/time.

If you witness a downed power line, call 911 immediately then contact CenterPoint to report the hazard.

In the event of an outage, TDUs are more than likely the ones to contact since they are responsible for servicing the area's power lines and making any repairs. The only time a TDU may not be liable for power-loss is if electricity has been disconnected intentionally due to late payments by customers or delinquency.

When electricity is disconnected as a result of billing or payment, the chosen retail electric provider (REP) is the company to contact. REPs function as an intermediary between customers and the utility companies - just as retail stores are with factories. While working with all TDUs, REPs resell energy in competitive plans directly to consumers.
