Our Take On Summer Energy

Summer Energy offers variable and fixed rate plans up to 12 months. Summer Energy applies base charges to all of its plans. Summer Energy is not accredited with the Better Business Bureau, and has been given a rating of B-. This, coupled with poor consumer reviews regarding hidden fees and poor customer service, and a lack of long-term fixed rate contracts, lead us to reccomend other suppliers above Summer Energy. Compare reviews with other suppliers.

Plan type Contract Length Details Early termination fee Our Thoughts

  • Rate remains the same for the entire contract period
  • At end of period, option to renew or automatic switch to month-to-month variable rates
  • Plans include state average 10% renewable content
  • Base charge of $4.89 added for usage under 1000kWh
$100 - $200  It's unfortunate that Summer Energy doesn't offer longer term contracts than 12 months.

  • Base charge of $9.95 per billing cycle
None Not recommended.

Savings on Fixed Rate Plans

Some customers report that they appreciate savings on fixed rate electricity plans from Summer Energy. Fixed rate plans can often be a good deal if you are able to lock in a good rate at the right time of year.

Electricity customers should opt for fixed rate contracts of 24 or 36 months. Electricity prices per kilowatt-hour fluctuate throughout the year, and you may actually lose money by not being able to take advantage of prices when they are low. However, because electricity prices tend to increase over time, locking in fixed rates for longer periods may prove advantageous and deliver savings.

Variable rate prices are determined solely at the discretion of the provider.

Green Energy Plans

Summer Energy does not offer 100% renewable plans.

Customer Service Ratings

YEP has an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, based on the small number of complaints that have been made against it relative to its size. Customer reviews are mixed, with some customers satisfied with their service and energy savings, and other customers dissatisfied with various fees and customer service.

Losses On Variable Rate Plans

Some customers report dissapointment with their variable rate plans, which may end up being more expensive than a fixed rate plan. We do not recommend variable rate plans, because these are not regulated by your state government, and may end being more costly than a fixed rate.

Cancellation Fees

Cancellation fees on Summer Energy's contracts are expensive, especially given their relatively short duration.
