About

Who is Clearview Energy?

Registered as Clearview Electric, Inc. d/b/a Clearview Energy, Clearview Energy uses this legal name for state public-utility-commission filings and customer contracts. The trading name on bills is the shorter, more recognisable form.

The company is headquartered in Dallas, TX, where it runs senior management, customer operations and regulatory liaison with state commissions.

Clearview Energy was established in 2006. A longer track record means more years operating under state-commission rules and a wider history of customer feedback, billing and regulatory interactions.

Clearview Energy operates independently — it is not part of a larger corporate group. This typically means faster decision-making but less wholesale-market scale.

Frequently asked

Clearview Energy — answers to common questions

Clearview holds an A+ rating with the BBB (accredited since April 2011), but the company has been the subject of two material regulatory actions in the deregulated retail-energy market: a $500,000 settlement and six-year withdrawal from Connecticut in 2021, and an $8.4 million consent decree with a permanent ban from Illinois in 2025. Before enrolling, check the unit rate (¢/kWh) against your local utility's price-to-compare and read recent customer reviews on the BBB profile.

Clearview markets retail electricity across several Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and Texas deregulated markets, and offers natural gas in a smaller subset of states (Maryland, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania). It no longer serves Connecticut and is permanently banned from Illinois. Service availability also varies by ZIP code inside each state — verify on Clearview's website with your ZIP before signing up.

You can switch your retail electricity or gas supplier at any time, though early-termination fees may apply if you are within the term of a fixed-rate contract. Check your enrollment letter or Terms of Service for the exact figure. Switching back to your default utility supply is always free and the physical service is not interrupted.
