Discount Power US

Discount Power Inc. is a licensed Texas Retail Electric Provider, regulated by the Public Utility Commission of Texas under PUCT Substantive Rule 25.475. It bills residential and small-business customers in the deregulated ERCOT zones served by Oncor, CenterPoint, AEP Texas and TNMP. Despite the name, "Discount" is a marketing identifier, not a regulated price guarantee — the low headline rate typically applies only to a 1 to 3 month introductory period before rolling to a higher post-introductory rate.

About

Who is Discount Power?

Registered as Discount Power Inc., Discount Power uses this legal name for state public-utility-commission filings and customer contracts. The trading name on bills is the shorter, more recognisable form.

The company is headquartered in Shelton, CT, where it runs senior management, customer operations and regulatory liaison with state commissions.

Discount Power operates independently — it is not part of a larger corporate group. This typically means faster decision-making but less wholesale-market scale.

Plan structure

What plan types does Discount Power offer?

Locked-in (fixed)

Fixed-rate plans on 6, 12, 24 or 36-month terms. Often flat from month one, though some 12-month plans carry a 1 to 3 month introductory rate before rolling to a higher post-intro rate. Early termination fee commonly $150 to $295.

Variable / month-to-month

No-term plan whose rate resets each month with the ERCOT wholesale market. Summer scarcity events can push the rate well above fixed offers.

Free Saturdays / Free Nights

Time-of-use plans (12 or 24 months) where the "free" hours are subsidised by a higher rate during paid hours. Only pays off if more than roughly 30% of your kWh land in the free window.

Green / 100% renewable

Same structure as the fixed plans (12 or 24 months) with renewable energy credits attached, typically priced slightly above the matching non-green fixed plan.

Renewable content: Discount Power matches green-plan kWh with renewable energy credits. The electricity delivered is the same Texas grid mix as every other plan; the green designation means an equivalent volume of renewable generation was produced and certified for the grid in the customer's name — the standard way every Texas REP sells a renewable plan.

Contact

Reach Discount Power customer service

Discount Power's customer service handles enrollment questions, billing, switching and complaints. Have your account number from a recent bill ready to speed up the call.

  • The customer service line 877-259-7693 is the number listed on the discountpower.com homepage. Older directories sometimes show different numbers, so always cross-check on the official site before calling.
  • Discount Power sets only the energy-supply (cents-per-kWh) portion of your bill. The wires and meter (TDU delivery) charges come from Oncor, CenterPoint, AEP Texas or TNMP and are the same for every REP in the same zone.
  • Plan names and rates rotate. Always pull the live Electricity Facts Label (EFL) from Power to Choose (powertochoose.org) or directly from discountpower.com before you sign, and read the post-introductory rate on page two.
  • If you cannot afford a bill, PUCT rules require Discount Power to offer a deferred payment plan — contact the REP first. Texas also runs LIHEAP through the CEAP program at TDHCA.

Frequently asked

Discount Power — answers to common questions

Discount Power is regulated by the public utility commission in each state where it operates. Reliability is best judged against your own usage profile: read recent reviews, confirm the customer-service hours match when you actually need to call, and compare the unit rate against the utility's price-to-compare for your zip code.

Plans can typically be enrolled directly on Discount Power's website or by calling 877-259-7693. Before signing up, always compare the unit rate (¢/kWh for electricity, $/therm for gas) against your utility's price-to-compare for your zip code.

You can switch your retail supplier at any time, though early termination fees (typically $50-$200) may apply if you are on a fixed-rate plan and within the contract term. Check your enrollment letter or Terms of Service for the exact figure. Switching back to your default utility supply is always free.
