Are you eligible for compensation in Pennsylvania?
PA PUC handles disputed claims. PECO, PPL, Duquesne and FirstEnergy accept spoilage claims case-by-case — no automatic credit.
Are you eligible right now?
File a claim with your utility within 60 days. PUC consumer complaint if denied.
How to file:
- Document the outage: start time, end time, photos of spoiled food and damaged appliances, receipts for replacement purchases.
- Go to your utility’s claims page (linked above in the “who to call” section) and submit within 30–60 days.
- If your claim is denied or stalls, file a consumer complaint with the PA Public Utility Commission — they have authority over the utility.
- For damages from a federally declared disaster, also check disasterassistance.gov for FEMA Individual Assistance.
Renters: a standalone food spoilage benefit in your HO-4 policy (typically $500–$1,000, no deductible) may cover what your utility won’t. See the renters insurance breakdown.
