Top Customer Service

NYG&E's parent company, US Gas & Electric, has an A+ score from the Better Business Bureau for receiving a relatively low number of complaints for a company of its size, and responding well to customer concerns.

Savings on Fixed Rates

Customers report satisfaction with savings on fixed rate contracts with New York Gas & Electric.

We recommend fixed rate plans for electricity customers lasting 18 months or longer. This is because the price of electricity per kilowatt-hour increases over time, but fluctuates so much over the course of a year that customers may not be able to save when market prices drop during a one year period.

Natural gas customers should opt for contracts lasting 12 months or fewer, because the rate of natural gas per therm or cubic foot is actually falling over time. However prices change so much between seasons, that customers can save on shorter contracts by signing up for service in the winter when prices are the cheapest.

Difficulty Redeeming Rewards

Some customers report that it is difficult to cash in their rewards. There are allegations that the requirements to file a rebate request, for example, are not straightforward.

Unstable Variable Rates

There are some customers who feel that variable rates are not a good deal with New York Gas & Electric. They state that rates can become more expensive shortly after an initially appealing price the first month.

We do not recommend variable rates with Energy Service Companies (ESCOs) because they are not regulated by your state government, and can therefore become more expensive than what your local utility offers.
