Veteran Energy provides electricity to Texas residents. As their name suggests, they are owned by and provide support to U.S. military veterans and active service members.

Our Take on Veteran Energy

We think that Veteran Energy could be a good choice of retail electric provider, with the right rate. We like that they do business with a social purpose, and their longer-term plans could offer the possibility of savings. However, as they charge a $9.95 minimum usage fee for consumption under 1,000 kWh per month, they are probably better suited to larger households (i.e. families rather than individuals).

Prices

Veteran Energy prices can be competitive though pricing can vary according to where you live.

Customer Service

As is the case with all retail electric providers, customer reviews of Veteran Energy are mixed. There are very few online reviews of Veteran Energy (positive or negative), which we take to be a good sign, as most satisfied customers tend not to bother with leaving online reveiws. Of the negative reviews, some customers noted difficulties with customer service and pricing. As of June 2015, Veteran Energy had a A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau, based on the length of time the company has been operating, its size, and its responsiveness to filed complaints. The company is BBB accredited, which means that they have paid an accreditation fee to the BBB and have met and agreed to abide by certain customer service standards set by the BBB.

Contract Conditions

As a general rule of thumb, you should always check the terms and conditions of any energy supply plan you are considering before you sign it. However, we've done a preliminary read-through, and you might want to be aware of the following:

  • No early termination fee if you move and provide proof
  • Early termination charge ranging from $50 to $300 depending on the contract
