Signing up for Service
Customers moving in to ConEdison service territory should be sure to call the company's customer service line at least 24 hours in advance to ensure that service begins in time.
ConEdison service territory includes Manhattan, Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and much of Westchester county.
You will need to provide the following information to open a new account with ConEdison:
- Full name
- Planned move-in date
- New address
- Telephone number
- Social security or passport number
ConEdison's main customer service line can be reached at 1-800-752-6633 from 1:00 AM Monday - 11:00 PM Sunday.
How to Choose an ESCO
ConEdison is your local utility, which means they are your automatic provider of natural gas and electricity service. This includes:
- Delivery, or all costs related to getting energy to your home
- Supply, or the cost of the actual energy you consume + customer service charges
By choosing an alternate Energy Supply Company (ESCO) you can save on energy supply charges. First you need to open your ConEdison account before shopping around for an ESCO plan, because your ESCO will need ConEd account information to coordinate supply service.
We recommend fixed rate plans across the board with ESCOs, because they offer more certainty. Fixed rate plans feature contracts, so you should be aware of common contract conditions before signing up.

Terminating your Service
If you are moving out of ConEdison territory, you will need to call customer service or visit in person at least 24 hours in advance of your move so that you aren't billed for extra time. A technician will need to come to your home for all natural gas customers, in order to get an accurate final meter reading.
To cancel your ESCO contract, you will not need to take any extra steps.
However, to avoid paying an early cancellation fee, you will need to contact your ESCO usually about 30 days in advance of your move out date. Check your contract conditions for your plan's specifics.
Understanding your Bill
Your ConEdison bill is divided up by supply, delivery, and state and local taxes. Most residential customers fall into the SC1 rate category.
The New York Public Service Commission (NYPSC) regulates all ConEdison charges. This means that you will never have a rate increase that wasn't approved as fair by NYPSC.
