How to Start PSEG Service in Nassau County

If you are moving into a new home in Nassau county, you will need to call PSEG Long Island or visit in person at least 3 business days before your move-in date to ensure your service is turned on in time.

You will need to provide the following information to open a new account with PSEG:

  • Full name
  • Planned move-in date
  • New address
  • Telephone number
  • Social security or passport number

PSEG's main customer service lines are 1-800-490-0025 or 1-631-755-6000, open from Monday to Friday, 8AM to 8PM.

Choosing an Alternative Supplier (ESCO)

PSEG Long Island is your automatic electric provider because they are your local utility. This means PSEG takes care of:

  1. Delivery, or the cost of getting energy to your home
  2. Supply, or the cost of the energy you consume and customer service

PSEG customers are allowed to choose an alternate Energy Supply Company (ESCO) for their electricity supply charges - and potentially save money.

You will need to start your PSEG service before selecting an ESCO plan, since your ESCO will need your PSEG Long Island account information in order to take over supply service. There are normally no fees to start service with an ESCO, but it is important to be aware of other common contract terms.

Many ESCOs offer both fixed and variable rate plans, but we recommend fixed rate plans across the board. Learn more about how ESCOs work.

How to End Service

If you are moving out of PSEG Long Island service territory, you will need to call PSEG or visit their Roslyn Heights office at least 3 business days before your move to ensure your electricity service is turned off in time.

In order to avoid early cancellation fees on your ESCO plan, you may need to alert your ESCO of your move at least 30 days in advance. Be sure to look at your ESCO contract to be aware of any cancellation conditions.

Bill Charges with PSEG

Your PSEG Long Island bill contains charges divided up by supplydelivery, and taxes. Most residential customers are a part of the SC1 rate classification.

Because the New York Public Service Commission (NYPSC) regulates PSEG rates, there can be no changes to the rates you pay for electricity per kilowatt-hour with PSEG unless NYPSC agrees that there have been actual changes in the cost of doing business.

Below is an average breakdown of bill charges with PSEG Long Island, divided by supply, delivery, and taxes.
